Default Would you make this trade?

I have a 2010 GT-R premium with ~2000 miles. Only upgrade is full clear bra ~$1600.

I Was offered a 2011 Porsche GT3 RS Grey Black with red accents (MSRP of $157,400) for $92,400 difference.

It appears to me the market for used GT-Rs is poor and only going to get worse as the 2011s roll out.

Keep in mind I am into this car for very cheap.

Would you consider this trade???

The GT3 RS is nice, pure track car. It all depends on personal reference...I'd keep the GT-R though!

Brand new or used GT3? If it's new Id consider it very strongly and go for it.

And besides as the used GTR market declines you can snag up another.

No. I'd keep Godzilla. (And with only 315 2011's coming to US, I'm optimistic about retained value.)

Actually GT3's are very good track cars but are also very well manered street cars as well. I believe my last 997 GT3 rode better than my GT-R. Also, nothing sounds like a normally aspirated flat 6 at 8500 RPMs with the secondary mufflers bypassed!!

I love the GTR, but if you can swing it, I'd go for the new GT3. And then find you a used 09 GTR to play in.

He wasn't talking even trade -- that would be no decision
at all -- he was trading his GTR and $92,000; i.e., getting
a trade value of $65,000 for the GTR, which is about right.

Yeah, but the GTR spanks these cars all the time. Just ask Tanner Foust.

I guess I just don't see why it's such a deal. It seems like
a fair trade, given the price of a GT3RS. I traded cars with a friend that has a 2010 GT3 and we both came away impressed by each other's car. They seemed pretty comparable, with the steering feel edge going to the Porsche, but the performance to the GTR. I just don't see the GT3RS being worth the value of a GTR plus 90k.

Look at the 2009 GT-R used prices, transmission and drive line issues....The GT3 RS is solid, rare and doesn't rattle at the stop lights....?

Or...you can buy a Cadillac CTS V and spank everyone.

If you're referring to battle of the supercars TV show that was a 997.1 Turbo. The 997.2 Turbo with PDK Transmission does 0-60 in 3.2 secs. Some magazine have it at 3.0 secs flat. There is more to life than 0-60 times however.

Drive and RS on the track for a thirty minute session and you'll see. BTW I don't have to do a $2000.00 trans service every time I get off the track.

No doubt the GTR is the best bang for the buck car going but there is a difference.

GT3 RS is nice (love the color combo) - both cars are in the supercar realm. However, the GTR appears to spank the GT3 over and over again. Just go to youtube.com and search for videos based on key words: GT3 vs GTR. Then watch the GTR own the GTR.

As for value, the GT3 RS is incredibly overpriced and the GTR has revealed how outrageously priced these so-called supercars really are. Having owned Porsches in the past, I will admit to the fact that German engineering is as good as it gets. However, the GTR is a breakthrough car that the GT3 only hopes to keep up with. Whether it is in a straight line or on the track, the GTR is one of those cars that sets the performance benchmark.

As for transmission and driveline issues, try taking your GT3to the dragstrip and do 7 - 8 hard runs then lets see what kind of maintenance you will be paying for at your local Porsche dealership. I experienced it in my 996 turbo and quickly realized that these street build race machines are fragile indeed.

So in the end you acquired a beautiful speed machine, however you overpaid for it by giving up a more capable supercar that is more comfortable and has more day to day utility. Imagine a supercar that you can drive and take your kids to school in or take longer drives without having to see chiropractor afterwards.

Good luck and look out for the next GTR hungry for Porsche.
