Thumbs up 2012 (2011 Japan) GT-R Discussion

It is confirmed by Nissan Japan now. the DBA is coming in February 2011!

Official announcement: http://www.nissan-global.com/EN/NEWS...1018-01-e.html

Since there are intensive updates, Nissan is going to rename the code from CBA-R35 to DBA-R35 and with different variation for the next R35 GT-R.

Pure Edition 8,694,000 JPY
Black Edition 9,303,000 JPY
Premium Edition 9,450,000 JPY
Club Track Edition 10,479,000 JPY (plus member fees etc)
SpecM (EGOIST) 15,000,300 JPY
SpecV 15,750,000 JPY
S-Tec GT-R (ST1) 23,000,000 JPY(approx)

The new DBA-R35 updates.

- 530ps (522hp) @ 6400RPM and 612Nm (451 lb/ft) of torque available from 3200 rpm to 6000 rpm. 7:20 is the number for around Nurburgring Nordschleife with the new updates.
- New reinforcement on front end of the car which will improve the accuracy and directness of the car’s response.
- reworked the suspension layout (revised geometry and construction with new aluminum free piston design, increased caster, and adjust roll center)
- New front brake (10mm over current front rotors to 390mm size, therefore reduce braking temperature and longer brake rotor and pad life)
- Tweaked ABS and VDC
- Upgrade power of VR38 engine (rumored to be somewhere with 5xx hp) with re-worked intake piping to reduce drag on air
- New summer tires (Bridgestone Potenza RE070R R2, and Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT 600 DSST CTT)
- New 10 spoke Rays forged aluminum wheels that weights about 13kg each (28.6lb), with new tires, the GT-R will drop 3kg in unsprung weight.
- New software update. Replaces snow mode with a fuel save mode which will best suit for those who daily driving the GT-R.
- New Launch Control called LC4. LC4 holds the RPM’s at 4,000rpm before unleashing its “significantly” improved torque on the tarmac.
- New 2WD mode. With hold the transmission switch downward on fuel save mode for 4 seconds. The GT-R will then go rear drive only.
- LEDs in the front bumper with revised bumper to increase front downforce.
- Revised floor paneling of the GT-R to cool transmission
- Revised rear diffuser with LED
- Revised instrument cluster with blue lighting
- Real carbon fiber trim panel to the HVAC switchgear location.
- Reduced weight of 10kg (22lb)
- New blue and replacement black color available.

So, my question is how this will affect the current GT-Rs? If the car is really planning to have 5xx hp (530ps/522hp confirmed by Nissan) from factory with many more updates, that will probably make many current GT-R unhappy especially the ones who just purchased the 2011 (2010 Japan) models. So, are we going to see many people sell/trade the current model for a new improved one and thus drop the market value of the CBA-R35? One of the biggest affect I think would be the current Spec-V owners. With pretty much everything better than the current Spec V, how are the owner feel like when they pay double the money for less performance? And the UK GT-R owners just had theirs for less than a year, and now a new one is already on the way? Let's hear your thoughts.

I love the improvements and can't wait for a new Nurburgring record. Lap times should be coming soon. More power, more downforce, less weight, less drag and better tires should work out pretty well for Nissan.

I'm sure LC4 and the Fuel Saver software upgrade will be available to upgrade for previous models ('09 - '11). Does anyone know?

Rear wheel drive will help those tokyo drifters.

I'm also curious how this stacks up against the Lexus LFA...

Regarding the Lexus LFA:
I was at a track day this spring at Autobahn Country Club (~3.7 mile road circuit) in Joliet, Illinois (outside Chicago). There were 5 GT-Rs (including mine) running there that day, most of us running in the "intermediate" driver experience group, but one of us (Wayne) running in the "advanced" group with his 2009 GT-R. That same day, Toyota showed-up with a Lexus LFA and a factory pro race driver who already had 6,000 track miles on the car (which they had been trucking to tracks all over the US, giving hot lap rides to Toyota/Lexus exec's, dealership mgrs, and prospective buyers). The car is absolutely beautiful, fast as hell, and sounds REALLY wicked. However, no worries versus Godzilla --- in every session, Wayne's GT-R either passed, or was catching the LFA. (It is also telling that with all the Nurburgring testing the LFA has done, they have never posted a lap time --- meaning they don't have a good one compared to those of the GT-R, Viper ACR and Vette ZR-1.)
Besides, at a price of $375,000, the LFA is really just a curiosity.

This is how the current GTR stacks up against the LFA.

Video link below.

Lexus never posted a Nurburgrung time for the LFA. That's because it wasn't close.

Ditto regarding the N-ring time, which is the true test of automotive supremacy IMO.

And please! A drag race to evaluate these 2 cars?!? That's not what either of these cars is about (or is only one small aspect among many more important ones.) I had read the print article in Motor Trend mag. Its a stupid comparo for these two supercars. And then they ended the article with the DUMBEST comment when they said (paraphrasing) "But is the LFA worth the extra money ($375K vs $85K)? If you have to ask, you probably can't afford either of these cars." TOTAL BS. The vast majority of those of us who can afford and do own the GT-R could not afford a $375K car, whatever its performance. The fact that the GT-R OUTperforms the LFA makes the LFA no more than a very interesting anachronism IMO.

For most of us that was into the GTR we all know that it was officially released in Japan back in 07. So after 4yrs it only make sense to do a minor facelift. And to be honest those who bought 2010/11 should not feel like they were cheated cause even thou tweaks to the 2010/11 MY were minimal however it's still a heck of a lot better than the earlier productions 09. And not to mention there are still tons of aftermarket support out there for those who seek more hp/handling.

Nissan has finally announced the new GT-R's spec. 530ps (522hp) @ 6400RPM and 612Nm (451 lb/ft) of torque available from 3200 rpm to 6000 rpm. 7:20 is the number for around Nurburgring Nordschleife with the new updates. Nissan say this horsepower bump comes from running more boost, tweaking the A/F ratio, valve timing and improving the air intake. Also, the new Egoist and Club Track models will be released in the Asia and Europe area (no US plans yet).

7:20 at the N-ring! WOW! That sends everyone else back to the drawing board again, just like sub-7:30 did 2-3 yrs ago. BTW, GT-R is still the only sub-$100K production car to go sub-7:30 (and probably will remain so forever).

We shall see other manufacturers start to play the catch up game again

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N%C3%BCrburgring_lap_times

The time beats pretty much all the production cars now around the ring with the new 20,832 m distance

You are right, but the record of 7:24:22 was done in partial wet condition. Hopefully they will come out something in dry condition... Still already an improvement from the 09-11 models with that time.
