Default Things I find Funny about out Beloved GT-R

Hi guys,

I have been meaning to start this thread for sometime now, a drive yesterday sparked the fuel again so here goes :

1- Give Us LC & VDC options but penalise us if we use it ( This one everyone knows I guess )
2- Just have a CD player and no DVD player
3- Have an AUX input for Video but not able to access it unless we buy an aftermarket product and rip open factory panels
4- Have Sat Nav but no way to access it to update maps of other regions
5- TPS Sensor that can only be reset by the Dealer if tripped
6- The Music System can read MP3 cds but you can't transfer them to the hard drive . That luxury is apprently reserved for regular CDs to take up more space i think ?
7- Voice Dialing is tricky to use for non-US numbers
8- Give you a KPH read out for speedo but keep ODO in miles ? Even though the maintenance computer keeps track of distance in KMS
9- You get all Luxury Comforts but the Steering wheel is still manually moved using levers ?
10- No Memory Seats

Feel Free to add to the list lol. BTW Guys I still LOVE the car . This is just a thread expressing my thoughts.

Cheers,
Nabil

I do lke the fact it doesnt have so much luxury parts and more of a sports car...

I do hate there is no rear view cam or the side mirrors dont tilt when you go to reverse...

My girlfriend told me ......If it is a "fancy" car howcome it doesn't have those nice turning signals in the mirrors, a rearview camera, memory seats, and option for a sunroof...........to me is perfect...It was built for perfromance not luxury.

Paddle shifters not moving with the steering wheel.

Although Ferraris are the same way. I would prefer it to move with the wheel.

No automatic lights.

Seat warmer doesn't turn off automatically.

Rear view mirror seems a little low, and definitely blocks the sight-line on sweeping right turns.

I love my car!

I had an E60 M5 & I think the fixed paddles are better. Sometimes on a tight turn I would hit the wrong paddle. The GTR being fixed I never make that mistake.

Moral of the story: don't shift in a tight turn.

Definitely major emphasis on performance over some upscale luxuries. But consider what is standard on GT-R but optional on expensive makes such as Bluetooth, NAV, XM satellite radio, keyless start, on and on. Simply mind boggling.
I don't figure on watching many DVDs while I'm driving but a back up camera would be nice, at least as an option.

I agree, the abscence of a revsersing camera is a pain...even parking sensors would have been useful. One other gripe is the noise the gearbox makes particularly in auto mode.

But as an overall ownership experience and no doubt solid investment, I wouldn't trade it for anything else, PERIOD

auto headlights i prolly what i miss the most. ive left the lights on a couple times since im used to them shutting off automatically. tranny is very chunky on cold mornings. backup camera nice. exhaust sounds doesn't match the car looks. but worst to me is how easily the car gets pulled off course by grooves in the road---many an occasion when the wheel jerks right towards the shoulder. One handed driving not recommended. but all of those are just quibbles given how great the car is in every other area.

auto headlights; exhaust note, or lack there of. Radio controls on the wheel suck.

But in all a wonderfully silly car to own.

P.S. The paddles on the side, and not on the wheel, is the proper set up. Example F1. I cannot understand how Merc puts the paddles on the wheel in their Black series. It's like they don't even care.

No running daylights
No Front and rear sensor
No rear camera
No adjusting mirrors while in reverse
extra noise
could have a better sound
spoiled by my Yukon Denali

Pros:
turns lots of heads
Lots of fun to drive

I have other cars with paddles moving with steering wheel ( though not true DC trannies) and it's not fun when turning and not sure which paddle is where. You need to focus on wheel (vs road ahead) to see the orienation of wheel to pick the right paddle. Larger and Fixed on column so you always know who is where is the right thing to do.

only thing i would ask Nissan to address or consider is LED running lights.
Other than that, the car's perfect and would prefer that they don't add anything else to it which would increase weight and ultimately decrease acceleration performance.
Not unlike Corvette, we can't have everything, but the wiring and installation of the LED running lights shouldn't add much in the weight.
Everything else mentioned by others above would def. be welcome, but again, weight management should be considered with our already pretty heavy machine.

Audio:
-XM radio sounds compressed - like very low bit rate digital stream.
-iPod menu takes forever to navigate, but sounds great.
-iPod doesn't pause when you use the phone. It does pause if you switch to radio or another audio source.
-The phone takes more menu navigation and button presses than it should to use, but the sound on the other end is great.
-I keep turning the temperature knob when reaching for the volume control. My wife does the same thing.

Instruments/display:
-Can't display more info on that big screen in status mode, like outside temp. Ideally customized info.
-The dash's digital readout should be speed only, because the speedometer is hard to read, and there is significant paralax. Other functions should be handled on the multi-function display.
-Function buttons are fun, but can only show 1 graph of data vs time, and can't hit a "save screen" button when you do something "unusual".
-I installed the front and rear cameras and they are great. I use them both. That would have been a nice option.

Comfort:
-The driver's seat base has side bolsters that are a little
narrow for me. But either I'm getting thinner, or they're starting to loosen up.
-There was a rattle that was starting to drive me crazy. It sounded like it was coming from the passenger side, but it turned out to be my sunglasses in the overhead compartment. The padding in there isn't extensive enough.

Drivability:
-The paddle shift is still a little jerky, especially when turning while exiting a parking lot when cold: Jerk-jerk-jerk.
-The transmission is responsive at high revs, but is slow to manually downshift when you're lower on the RPMs.
-The brakes squeak, especially when the car is dirty. On the plus side, there's a lot less brake dust than with my old CaymanS, and the grey wheels hide it well.

Performance:
-Turbo lag, especially stepping on the gas from low RPM.

That's all I can think of, and none are that bothersome, because the car is so precise and tight and powerful. When I jump on the throttle, I love the sound it makes, and the feeling of the AWD clawing for pavement. The best description is visious. I'm planning on taking it to Road Atlanta in April, and none of the above small issues will affect performance there.

I sold an 2009 Cayman S with 7400 miles to buy 2010 GTR. I have no complaints at all.

XM radio on Cayman was $6k upgrade

Paddle shifters on Cayman S were setup backwards, but they fixed them on 2010 model

Porsche PDK tranny is a joke compared to GT-R DC

Porsche steering wheel does not telescope and guages do not move with steering wheel height adjustment

Bluetooth only worked when it was in the mood on 2009 Cayman S, fixed that on 2010 model.

Could go on and on but guess you can see why I sold Cayman and got GTR

I'm surprised nobody mentioned how impractical the tiny back seats are. I never use them.

Parked paddle shifters definitely better than moving with the wheel, why on earth would you want that?

Otherwise, this is a great thread! This should be sent to Nissan for their 2011+ models.

Lastly, the idea was to make this an affordable supercar, if you wanted luxury, the Audi R8 would have been more suitable.

^The R8 V8 doesn't come near the GT-R in performance, even at a much higher price. The R8 V10 has very comparable performance to the GT-R, but at an astronomically higher price.
But the styling of the R8 is pure sex to me --- makes Godzilla look like an ugly duckling. If price was NO object, I'd have the R8 V10. But in the real world for me, I couldn't be happier with Godzilla.

Hi All, newbie here.

Mine is a 2009 Japan spec model. It comes with reverse cam, auto head lights and has daytime LED running lights. These were items listed in some post above as nice to have? Cheers

BTW, I find the gearbox noise an irritant! Wish it wasn't that audible.
