Default GT-R vs. GT2 Automobile Mag

I was very amused reading about the GT-R and GT2 fighting over table scraps left by a production Dodge Viper at the 'ring. The $200,000 GT2 (7:49) is 'only' 27 seconds behind a box stock Viper (7:22). The GT-R's time (7:56) is much closer to a $20,000 260 hp Chevy Cobalt SS (8:22) than it is to a Dodge Viper. The Viper is the world's fastest production car by virture of being the production record holder at the 'ring. It's worth noting that the Viper is faster than the McLaren F1, Bugatti Veyron, Ferrari Enzo, Lamborghini Murcielago, Koenigsegg, Pagani, Porsche Carrera GT--all around a half million dollars or more. And, in the real world, you can get a new one for less than a GTR. Sometimes, it's great to be an American.

I thought the GTR did a 7:29 around the ring? and has bettered it since.

Ya its 7:29. The spec-v is lighter weight and features slight more torque when over boost is used. Also includes better suspension and slightly better run flats that use better materials but same design.

So knowing all the facts help. The spec-v lapped the ring in bad weather about 7:26 unofficially. However they claim it will reach 7:20 or better on a good day. They will test it later this year.

Default Yes, know the facts.....

If there WAS a 7:29 GTR, it was a 'cheater'. More boost, race tires, who knows. No one else has bettered 7:54 in one bought at a dealer--not some factory 'pre production' model driven by a factory driver. And that 7:54 was a Porsche factory race driver doing an evaluation for the Porsche factory. A 4000 lb car with 480 hp does not lap the ring at 7:29......

Again, the GTR is closer to a Chevy Cobalt SS than it is to a Dodge Viper.

CommonSense,

It's common sense to not make your first post at a forum you just joined about your opinion of a car that you obviously don't even like to begin with...not to mention you didn't even fully state the facts (such as your reference to an ACR Viper on a different day, not a normal coupe.) Go join VCA if you want to praise the Viper...don't try to stir up problems here.

Thread closed...CommonSense warned.
