Their problems have nothing to do with launches. Their fuel and evap system are having problems and the dealership took everything apart...

celsius 09-15-2008 11:13 PM

Yeah, I just read that too! opps:o

mindlessoath 09-16-2008 08:56 AM

but its still true. dont do your launch control to much. not only are dealers saying it, but they know that if you do it to many times something bad will happen as they have seen with the press cars.

a dealer has already mentioned the cars have all failed around the same amount of launches so they are telling customers to limit them launches. some say 30, some say 100, no one really knows the max. one guy said the press cars were failing at 200 launches. I havent the slightest idea of the truth, but since i have heard it from many sources there is a grain of truth in this, i just dont know how bad the situation really is yet.

GTRForLife 09-16-2008 05:27 PM

Well it makes sense if you think about it. The GTR launches are pretty violent. You're suddenly hooking the wheels up from 0 to 480hp. After a few dozen hard launches like that, there will definitely be wear and tear.

GT-RAWR 09-21-2008 02:08 AM

fail as in clutch
or fail as in whole car

godzilla2009 09-21-2008 01:07 PM

godzilla2009 thanks for testing the theory. your a brave sole with loads of money right?

in any case im sure if you use launch control and treat the tranny nice after and dont do repeated launches you will probably be fine... but even then to many will take its toll no matter how well you treat it.

some say 200 launches was when they were breaking - the majority anyways, some were at 100 launches. but those with repeated launches were in trouble much eariler. no official reports, this is word of mouth from dealers that went in for training and found out that way.

some dealers are telling customers only use launch control 30 times, some say more than that.

launch control is violant and uses the whole system to launch the car... its not pritty when it breaks.

Bacon 09-26-2008 11:28 AM

The 2 we have seen fail happened @ 35 and at 42 Launches. But there are plenty of people who have gone higher without any effects. The problem is the clutches are stronger than the tranny gears have strength. I’ve been fortunate to speak with some of the Nissan engineers who are on the taskforce for GTR issues (guys from Japan) and they said 3 times MAX. Either way it’s all on the data recorder so I’m sure it will eventually come out what the nominal threshold is for the trans.

godzilla2009 10-01-2008 11:35 PM

blown tranny at 35 lc

it is a fact.....after 35 lc the tranny will fail........at the drag track..........i do not think it will do it in the street.
i'll take it to the dealer tomorrow and see what their answer will be......will keep u guys updated...................................

JeremyBlackwell 10-02-2008 04:37 PM

Spam deleted. Also Ian, the report post works just fine. I had two people use it earlier for that same spammer, and just tested it myself. Please PM me if you are still having issues and I'll take care of you.

godzilla2009 10-02-2008 05:48 PM

clutches seem to be ok because 2 and 4 are working but not 1 3 5 6 R ( big time noise coming from the rear )
so i do believe that the clutches are way stronger than the tranny itself.
nissan from japan is dialing in tomorrow to decide what to do with this failure.:(

mindlessoath 10-03-2008 09:24 AM

Thanks Jeremy.

The clutches dont neccessarly mean they are stronger. There is alot working at the same time. Someone has noticed this may be caused by WHEEL HOP.

REDUCING wheel hop will reduce this problem, but it will probably still ultimatly happen.

also if you dont want to use launch control, either choose not to use it, or change to a full aftermarket suspension. This will remove the in dash settings for the suspension and not enable you to use launch control anymore. (unless you do a coil over conversion kit, like from cobb and amuse, these will retain the stock setup with aftermarket adjustable coilover springs).

godzilla2009 10-03-2008 02:46 PM

Bro, you do not realize how relieved I am! I was totally worried for when mine arrived

scarface 10-07-2008 06:08 AM

I just spoke to my nissa dealer in Barcelona, Spain in Europe. He personally rang Nissan Europe and they stated,
"There is no limit to launch control" and there is "NO void of WARRANTY if we use launch control"
They also have stated that launch control has been used continually on their test GTR at the Nurgburgring and no problems were reported.

Bacon 10-07-2008 11:13 AM

Well I just personally called and spoke to some of the GTR team leaders/ Quality assurance. And was told “tell everyone to read their owners manual, and follow the guide lines in the owners manual and warranty booklet. As it states in the owner’s manual do not turn off the VDC, driving with the VDC off can/will negate your warranty”

I also got a non political answer but I hope many of you can understand mine and his positions respective to the company. But it is a big issue they are working on

Long and short use it at your own risk, and after it breaks let us know if Nissan backed you up on your $20,000 warranty claim for driving the car in an unspecified manner.

And after they deny your claim let me know the lawyer with the balls big enough to try to overcome the special customer disclosure form you signed, and the owners manual and warranty booklet that you signed off you were advised of, and that you’re using a feature you saw on YouTube/ TV.

Thats Nissan USA though

So you´re telling me that driving a "supercar" fast, and turning off a feature that was placed there to allow you to turn it off in the fist place, is driving in an unspecified manner?

Maybe as you say, thats what you get in the U.S and in Europe things might be different....
